The Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ZANECO) is a non-stock and non-profit electric cooperative organized and registered under the National Electrification Administration (NEA) on o August 23, 1972. NEA is a corporation wholly-owned and controlled by the government established and revitalized through Presidential Decree 269 thereby declaring a national policy objective for the total electrification of the entire country on an area coverage basis.
The Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative follows the terms and conditions prescribed by the NEA for their operations. It also has borrowing authority and corporate powers and objectively aims to strengthen its partners in the rural electrification program, the electric cooperatives, by ensuring that they become more efficient, reliable and globally competitive.
ZANECO’s original franchise only covered Dapitan City and the Municipalities of Rizal, Sibutad, La Libertad, Piñan, Mutia and Polanco. Now, it has grown into mega-large electric providing the power needs of 584 barangays in 21 municipalities and two cities all throughout the province of Zamboanga del Norte.
And starting from June 14, 2005, General Manager Adelmo P. Laput set out his duties and responsibilities together with 262 vigorous and dependable personnel which marked a great achievement for the cooperative. The improvement of the cooperative’s performance is clearly noticeable when it ranked from “C Rating” on 2004 to “A Rating” in NEA’s latest assessment The big leap contemplates the hard works of the Board of Directors and how the present leadership managed.
