The beauty of timeless art reflects on everything in this old but unique cafe and art gallery. From its odd-looking gate, broken-tiles, paved path walks, overgrown garden, paintings and sculptures that is present in every spaces and corners of Good Times Cafe.
Good Times Cafe is located in Carlos P. Garcia corner Lopez Jaena Street, Brgy. Biasong, Dipolog City.
Upon reaching the place, an odd-looking gate designed with a sun with mirror rays will welcome all visitors. A few steps upon entry, a two-storey ancestral house on a thousand square meter of wildly manicured overgrown gardens, with pathways and walls covered by artful arrangements of bits and bits of different kinds of tiles cut in all sizes and shapes.
Winding deeper, a creepy yet relaxing instrumental of an unknown artist will reach your ears and you will be awed by the colorful broken tiles patched in makeshift benches, tables and walls that seemed to mimic the yellow brick road of the Land of Oz, this time with a twist. Everywhere in the place there is an art of a face in masks, somewhat like a deity of a forgotten tribe, sculptures and paintings that seem to greet you with their silent “hellos”. All the portals inside the cafe and art gallery are filled with numerous works of art.
Every space and corners are filled with vivid art varying from antiques to recyclable items combined together to make an outstanding piece of art. From chinawares, figurines, paintings, sculptures, paper mache masks, drifted woods figures. Its obvious that every detail is a craft, a masterpiece that reflects time, effort, skill and emotions by the maker.
With all these, it is hard to believe that you are still in Earth because the Good Times Cafe seems to be a world on its own, a world beyond others.
The main attractions that will capture everyone’s attention in the garden proper are the Kapilya Juliana, a chapel for all religion and the Galeria Indelecio wherein works of well known artists in Dipolog are being displayed. The main living room, wherein low tables sat high; funky tablecloths paired with pillow cushions were framed by wooden posts wrapped in red fabric thus making for an intimate dinner setting.
Good Times Cafe serves delicious Mindanao dishes like the slightly sweet humba, the innard dish paklay and the roasty souped nilagpang na manok. The peaceful and unique ambiance of the place makes every spoon of their dishes well enjoyed.
The old house standing for a long time also serves as lodging for weary and hippie travelers.
Surely, Good Times Cafe is a piece of heaven here on Earth for all art aficionados, art aspirants and all folks who are fond of unique places because, just like the word unique in itself, Good Times Cafe and Art Gallery is a cafe like no other.
