President Benigno S. Aquino III has declared July 1, 2013 a Special Non-Working Holiday in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte in celebration of its 100th Founding Anniversary with the theme “Dipolog Soaring High After 100 years and Beyond.”

Pres. Aquino issued Proclamation Number 595 which was signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Jr., on June 6 declaring the said holiday to give Dipolognons the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion.

The centennial celebration started on June 24 with Eucharistic thanksgiving mass around 1:00 PM at the Holy Cathedral,  opening ceremonies of Panagsangka 2013, parade along the main thoroughfares of the city, and video presentation at Dipolog Sunset Boulevard.

One of the highlights of the week long celebration is the formal oath-taking of the newly-elected officials of Dipolog City and Zamboanga del Norte headed by Mayor Evelyn T. Uy and Governor Roberto Uy, respectively.

The City Government has also lined up various activities during the one-week centennial celebration that would officially end on July 1 with Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino IV as the guest speaker to deliver his Centennial message. Later in the evening, David Pomeranz, an international singer, will hold his concert at the Dipolog City Sports Complex.

Dipolog was separated from Dapitan in 1912 through a decree issued by the Governor John Pershing of the Department of Mindanao and Sulu. It became a municipality on July 1, 1913 with Mayor Pascual T. Martinez as its first municipal mayor.

On June 6, 1952, the Philippine Congress approved Republic Act 711 naming Dipolog as the capital town of Zamboanga del Norte.
