It’s official. Dipolog City will be the venue of the annual Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Athletic Association (ZPRAA) Meet 2014. The announcement was formally disclosed by DepEd Regional Director CESO IV Dr. Corazon Brown.
In response, Atty. Chandler Ruiz, the current Chairman of Dipolog City Youth Sports and Development Council, expressed his utmost enthusiasm for the upcoming event. Hosting a major sports event like the ZPRAA will not only encourage the youth to engage in sports but will lift the economy of the city as well, he added.
Dipolog was chosen as the venue for next year’s regional sports event after the city outbid the Local Government of Siocon, which had earlier expressed interest in hosting the ZPRAA in 2014 during the Regional Sports Council Meeting last September 18 at the DepEd-IX office in Tiguma, Pagadian City.
The Regional Sports Council Meeting was attended by representatives from the three provinces namely, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay and the cities of Dipolog, Dapitan, and Pagadian comprising the Zamboanga Peninsula region.
Ruiz revealed that the other representatives present in the said meeting expressed their support to hold the event in Dipolog City as the city has the necessary facilities and billeting quarters to accommodate the delegates. The other divisions of DepEd in Zamboanga Peninsula had commended Dipolog for its cleanliness and peace and order, he stressed, thus making Dipolog a more worthy venue for such a major sports event in the region.
Dipolog City has proven her hosting capabilities when she housed three delegations from Luzon during the 2012 Palarong Pambansa.
